Yes that is correct. A cable can not improve the sound of your system. Cables have only one job, to transfer an electronic signal from one device to another. And since there is no perfect cable, cables actually degrade the sound of your system because no cable can transfer this signal unaltered. What you are looking for when purchasing cables is a cable that alters the signal the least. A high quality cable will do this much better than a low quality one, of course. So you can hear an improvement from cable to cable. But remember it is all about signal transfer and which cable alters it the least.

As you do your research on what cables are out there you will find that cable world is a treacherous place to be sure. You will read ads with outlandish claims, ads full of snake oil and false promise. You will find a small few of manufacturers that base their cables off science and physics.
